Camping Responsibly

While these places are free to stay, they do carry responsibility.  You need to take away your waste and ensure you leave the site clean and tidy for the next lot of campers.  Find out where you can dump your waste here.

Sometimes there is some confusion about camping rules in New Zealand. The Camping our way website provides all the information you need about camping in New Zealand, including: types of campsites, locations, and general rules.

Where can I dump my waste?

Dispose of your waste safely at one of New Zealand’s network of Dump Stations. To find a station simply look for the sign below, or use this comprehensive list provided by the Ministry of Tourism Dump Station Guide.

We can also recommend you to download the app Campermate on your smartphone or tablet. It has all the information you need about local showers, toilets, dump stations and self contained parking spots around New Zealand.
